WRITTEN ASSESSMENT - REPORT

Learning Outcomes -

1. Critically evaluate the role of health management in the delivery of effective healthcare in a selected area of practice.

2. Identify factors affecting healthcare delivery and apply effective management strategies and processes

Background -

All health managers face a number of challenges. Challenges can either be a threat or an opportunity, or a combination of the two.

Examples of current managerial challenges include rising healthcare costs, delivering greater value, ageing populations, medical tourism, climate change, the migration of healthcare staff, and the application of technology in healthcare.

Assessment Task -

Write a report in which you identify one managerial challenge for one healthcare organisation of your choice and prepare a report in which you identify and evaluate:

• The source of the challenge
• Impacts of the challenge on the organisation and its stakeholders
• Options to solve the problems associated with the challenge
• A preferred solution to the problem
• How the solution(s) will be implemented
• How the success of this will be measured
• You must incorporate appropriate management theories, ethics, strategies and processes in your report.
• Useful sources for this assignment are the course textbook, journal articles, websites, and media articles.

Format and Content

The format and content of the report must contain the following information:

Introduction: Discuss the purpose of the report, briefly describe the chosen healthcare organisation, clearly identify the challenge for health managers in that organisation and provide an outline of the content of the report.

Source of the Challenge: Provide an analysis of the source of the challenge. For example, does the challenge come from the internal or external environment, and which factors are involved? Is it a threat or an opportunity?

Impacts of the Challenge: Evaluate the impacts of the challenge on the chosen healthcare organisation and its stakeholders. How does the challenge affect the organisation, positively or negatively, and in what ways? Which groups are affected by the challenge inside and outside of the organisation and in what ways?

Analysis of Options: Analyse the options available to solve the problem, including the preferred solution and why this has been chosen. Of all the available option that you have identified and evaluated which one is the most effective and realistic? Why?

Implementation: Discuss how the most appropriate solution should be implemented and provide an evaluation how the success of this will be measured. Now that a realistic solution has been chosen, what should health managers do to implement the solution? How will health managers know whether or not the solution will achieve the intended outcomes?

Conclusion: Prepare a conclusion that summarises the findings from each section of the report and provides a clear discussion of the chosen solution to the identified challenge. The conclusion should provide a strong finish to the report, and no new material should be added to the discussion in this section.

References: Prepare a list of all references used in the compilation of this report. The list of references must be in APA 6th edition style.
