Grenada is a wonderfully green and serene place, a tranquil oasis that has thankfully avoided the over-development that has blighted so much of the Caribbean. For recreation most people go to the beach, explore and hike through the rainforest, spend time with family and enjoy festive fetes.

Most buildings have a very old colonial look.

Grenadians are very sociable people. They love to hang out or "lime" by the roadside and have a drink by one of the many "rum shops," to catch up on the current affair of the country.

The weather is tropical. Average temperatures range from 75 degrees F to 85 degrees F (24 degrees C to 30 degrees C), with a cool breeze. We have two seasons. The dry season is between January and May and the rainy season is from June to December.

While women work in politics and professional trades, men are still socially dominant. Typically, after a husband and wife have finished work, the man unwinds at the local rum shop with his friends while the woman attends to household duties.

Salutations are an important part of daily etiquette even among strangers. Public displays of affection are common among schoolchildren, particularly those of the same sex. It is not uncommon to see girls holding hands on the street and boys walking with their arms draped around each other's shoulders. However adult public displays of affection are seen as private.

Island time is a very real thing. Usually a half hour grace period is acceptable.

Change is considered both negative and positive, it really depends on what is going to be changed.

It is believed in Grenada that education is the key to an individual's success.

There is harmony in Grenada between inhabitants and nature. The removal of corals from the sea, wildlife from forest and rivers and debarking of trees is strictly prohibited.

Grenada is predominantly Roman Catholic (53 percent), with Protestants accounting for 33 percent of the population. Among Christians, a substantial number believe to some extent in obeah, or white magic. When good things happen it is believed that God has sent blessings.

Grenadian love a good joke and to laugh, anything can become humourous.
