Government Paper Assignment

The purpose of this analysis and project is for you to apply the key theoretical concepts of the class: Using appropriate mathematical skills to interpret social studies information, researching and using secondary sources, and transferring this statistical information and research into your own words.

This assignment has five parts: Data analysis, secondary sources research, presentation, peer review, and final submission.

1. Data analysis: Using the tables and charts found in Blackboard with this assignment, answer the 4 questions asked on the following page. You will present this information in part three of this assignment.

2. Secondary sources research: Once you complete the data analysis, do an Internet search to find out which political party (Republican or Democrat) tends to benefit when incomes increase or decrease (in other words, which party has more wealthy voters and which party has more poor voters). Find three secondary sources (not including the census website) to support your answer. You will present this information in part three of the assignment.

3. PowerPoint Presentation: Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that includes the following (a total of six slides):

a. Introductory Slide (Your Name, Class, Date)

b. Slide with Answers to the Questions Below

c. Two Slides with a bar chart showing the data used to answer questions 1 (income change in Texas) and 4 (comparison of regional change) from part 1 of this assignment.

d. A paragraph explaining which party will gain from the income changes noted in the answer to the first question (income change in Texas)

e. A Resources page that lists the three secondary sources (not including the census website) used to support your answer to the question regarding party support

Using this data table in excel file "Income Data 201-2013" (attached), answer the following questions. Remember: You will include your answers in your PowerPoint presentation.

1. Has the average median income for Texas increased or decreased (percentage change) from 2010-2011 to 2012-2013?

2. By how much did Texas' average median income increase or decrease (percentage change) from 2010-2011 to 2012-2013?

3. Which state had the greatest change in average median income from 2010-2011 to 2012-2013? What was the percentage of change?

4. Using the map provided in Blackboard, which region's average median income had the greatest change from 2010-2011 to 2012-2013 and what was that rate of change (for the region with the greatest change)?
