Good morning listeners, we've got a hot track for you today! The song selections are a combination of classic rock n' roll and modern hits that were picked out by a history of rock and roll student at Washington State University. Hope you enjoy!

To start off the morning we will be listening to "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns N' Roses. This classic rock song was released in 1987 and was written by the lead singer Axl Rose. It features incredible guitar solos by the bands lead guitarist, Slash. In an effort to make the song more marketable for radio stations, much of Slash's solo was cut from airing to make the song shorter in length.

Next we will be listening to "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. Even if you are not familiar with the rock and roll music scene, you have most likely heard this song. This song is unique because it has a structure that leaves out the chorus until the very end of the song. It goes back and forth from instrumental to verse and the chorus doesn't start until 3:21 of the song. This classic rock song has been modernized by being used in the popular TV show Glee.

Now we have "Sweet Home Alabama" by none other than Lynyrd Skynyrd. This band's style is more Southern Rock with a country twist that was a very original style in the 70's. This song was inspired by a single guitar riff by band guitarist Gary Rossington and took off from there. This song was followed by quite a bit of controversy after being released by accusing the band of singing about racism and slavery in the South.

One of my favorite rock songs, "Hotel California" by the Eagles. The style of the song is different than anything you will ever hear. When I hear this song it makes me feel like I'm in the 70's listening to a live band concert by the Eagles. The instrumentals in this song are truly unique. The guitar solo was even deemed the best guitar solo of all time.

Another by Guns N' Roses, "Live and Let Die" was originally written by Paul McCartney and performed by his band Wings. I chose the Guns N' Roses version of the song because of its modern hard rock feel that works really well for the song. It is very rare to find a version of a song that compares to the original but in my opinion, Guns N' Roses did an excellent job of capturing the energy of the song and making it different.

Next up is "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac. What's interesting about this rock song is that the lyrics were created during a very tense time for the band when they were threatening to break up. The success from the song rising up on the charts lifted the spirits of the band.

Next is the classic "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. What I recognize about this song is that the repetitive guitar riff stands out more to me than the lyrics. The guitar riff is a very popular instrumental that is a classic tune I think of when I think of rock and roll songs. The song deals with eternal love and the inevitability of death. It was written by Dharma, the band's lead guitarist.

Now we have two songs by one of my all-time favorite rock bands, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. First we will play their classic, "Snow (Hey Oh)" which is a softer, melodic tune that they are known for. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a more modern rock band that also mixes with funk rock music. The theme of this song is about starting fresh- having a blank slate like a canvas of snow. For the second song by the RHCP we have, "Can't Stop" which has short, rapped verses rather than slower melodies, making it very distinct. This was the original style that the Red Hot Chili Peppers sang in the early 2000's.

To end the morning I couldn't leave out one of the most influential bands of all time- The Beatles. This song is called "Come Together" written by John Lennon and released in 1969. This song also has short, rapped verses and guitar riffs that flow together so well. Since being released it has been covered by multiple different artists including John Lennon doing a solo version of the song. This is another song that most people know of even if they don't listen to rock and roll music. Thank you for tuning in, I hope everyone enjoyed this track I put together! Have a great rest of your day!
