Emerging Diseases in Your Community

This week, we will look into our own communities and discuss emerging diseases.

Look into health data for your community (Baltimore, Maryland). You can look at statistics from your local health department or websites such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Find a disease that is emerging in your community and discuss. Please make sure it is different than your research paper disease.

Give the rates and the duration of the increase of this disease. What population does this disease affect most? Discuss what you think can be done to prevent further increase in this disease.

Nutrition from Adulthood to the Elderly Years, Alcohol, and Nutrition for Exercise

In this forum, we will explore topics related to this week's lesson. Our nutrient needs change as we age and this week you learned about nutrition during the adult years; the phase of the lifecycle in which we spend the most years.

Alcohol is nutrient poor, calorie-rich beverage many people drink. The CDC reports that more than 3/4ths of Americans have consumed at least one alcoholic beverage sometime in their life.
