Give answer of the following questions:

1. What is the sociological imagination? After explaining it please pick two quotations from C. Wright Mills' book about this idea that capture two different aspects of it and explain each of your quotes using an example that we have covered in class (the part of the book that we read in class is available on Canvas; download the file rather than looking at it on Canvas to see the parts we focused on in class highlighted in purple; you're also welcome to use examples of your own that we have not talked about in class).

Sociological imagination is the relationship between individual and the social environment that surrounded by us. Naturally, peopleget affected from environment they grow up in they will be educated if they grow up in educated family or they will be high, middle or hardworking class if they grow up in one of these families. In term of sexual interest regularly people become straight but some people being undecided until they finish high school or when they pass teenage level and if they surrounded by gay, lesbian or other sexual interest they might decide to be like the people they feel comfortable with especially during teenage level. In addition, we live in a world that cannot be free of natural disasters some people live in areas that they cannot guarantee 100% safe life because they live near rivers or sea that can cause flood at least one time a year and they barley survive which is cause for them unstable life and they do not have the ability to move to safer areas. Finally, sociologist keep studying these cases and more of them to find solutions to aware people from those circumstances that definitely will cause unstable life for them.

2. What is "Dunbar's number"? Why does Dunbar's number tell us that we need different tools and ideas to understand large human communities than the ones we use to think about individuals and small groups? How does this relate to the definition of sociology that we have covered in class?

3. Why do we need to understand "natural disasters" as intersections between natural systems and human social systems and not as purely natural events? Give three examples from the disasters that we have talked about in class of the character of the human social systems involved in the disaster and explain how these social dimensions shape the impacts of the disaster.

4. There are twenty-four terms highlighted in yellow in Chapter 5 of our textbook on "Groups and Networks" (pp. 149-183). Please choose five of them and use groups, relationships, networks, and experiences from your own life to explain what the concept means (so your examples should come from your personal experience.) In grading this question we will be looking for whether the examples that you give in your answers clearly demonstrate the definition and meaning of the term.

5. What does Erikson mean when he argues that in addition to experiencing individual traumas, people who experienced the Buffalo Creek Flood also suffered "collective trauma"? Identify two quotes from Erikson's book on the flood (excerpts are available on Canvas) that point to different aspects of the concept of collective trauma. So each quote should get at a different part of what he means or of how people's experience of the flood amounted to collective trauma. Explain the ideas behind the quotes as clearly and as completely as you can.

6. If there were to be a big earthquake along the Cascadia fault today it would be very destructive (Schulz, "The Really Big One"). Please identify two different consequences that the article says this earthquake would probably have. For each of the causes you have identified, identify what aspect of the social contextof the communities affected would lead to that consequence. Then identify a cause of that social context ¬- why is it that the society is organized in that way? - again, for each of your two consequences. Please be as clear and specific as you can about how the contexts and causes you identify are related to the consequences you are linking them with.

7. Why is germline genetic engineering a social issue in a way that individual genetic therapies are not? Identify and explain two potential benefits and two potential dangers of this technology for our society. Describe your own views on the technology in relation to these social issues(we will not be grading on the content of your views, but rather your ability to explain them and to relate them to the benefits and dangers that you identified in the first part of the question.)

8. How does a sociological approach to explaining the opioid addiction crisis differ from an approach that focuses only on individual morality and brain chemistry? Provide at least three specific examples of aspects of the opioid addiction crisis that go beyond individuals to involve social systems and explain them. What are some approaches to managing this crisis that a sociological approach, as opposed to an approach focused on explaining addiction as a personal problem, suggests? Why do these approaches more reflect a sociological approach than one based on individual responsibility? (The lecture identified many different aspects of the social context of opioid addiction as well as many different strategies for managing the crisis that focus on its social dimensions.)

9. What factors would a demographer focus on to explain the history of the homo sapiens species(i.e. modern humans) over the last 60-70,000 years? Identify at least four distinct parts of that history that a demographer would identify as important and explain why. (Another way to think of this is what are the central concepts a demographer would use to explain this history and what are the central facts they would want to explain?) The more detail you provide in answering this question the better.

10. We talked in class about the social aspects of natural disasters. We can use the same way of thinking about other sorts of disasters as well like the concussion crisis in American football. Please explain why we need to think about the social sources of the concussion crisis to understand it, and then identify three distinct social causes of the crisis to support your answer. The following websites have articles on the crisis that may help you answer this question, but don't feel like you have to read all of them. Just dig through for examples:
