1. You are going to research two local hotels. You will need to call or visit the two properties. In addition make sure you research the hotels website and find the response to the following questions in detail:

?a. What is the rack rate for a “standard” room?

?b. What is included in this rate?

?c. What amenities are offered at their property – pool ,restaurant etc.?

?d. Are rates different on the weekend? Higher or Lower?

?e. What items are available in disabled access guest room?

?f. How many disabled guest rooms do they have?

?g. How many total guest rooms does this property have?

?h. What would happen if the hotel was in a sold-out situation?

?i. What other hotels are in the area?

?j. What was the name and position of the person you spoke with?

?k. Was this person knowledge of their property?

Compare and contrast the two properties you have chosen.

2. Via the internet, or directly from a hotel, obtain floor plans of three different room types for a property. A floor plan is a picture of the rooms. Answer the following questions:

?a. What is the name of the property you selected?

?b. Where is it located?

?c. What is each room type called at this hotel?

?d. What is the rack rate for each room type?

?e. What are the differences between the room types, services, amenities etc..

3. Visit any one of the major chain Websites. Choose a location/hotel. Choose a date and check the available rates. Compare those rates to rates offered for the same hotel/date at the hotel’s 800 number. Complete the exercise by call the hotel directly and getting a room quote. How easy is each of these reservation avenues to use? What would cause any discrepancies in availability or rate?
