"For an organization development consultant, there are two fundamental tools that are essential: the ability to diagnose the organization and its capacity for change and the ability to recognize various levels of resistance to change. In each case the consultant is not diagnosing and recognizing for its own sake. Without these skills and abilities, an O. D. consultant is unable to work with clients to create "change plans". They may know what the client wants, as stated in the initial contracting discussions; they will not know what the real issues might be, nor where the organizational "land mines" are that could upset the plan for change."
