Ask Operation Management Expert

FIRST PART...

This first part focuses on how to make decisions related to ethical and social responsibility issues. Below are two situations for you to read and respond too. Please provide an in-depth answer based on the guidelines for ethical decision making. Briefly, bring out concepts and apply those to your answer.

SITUATION - 1 Bill has done a good job at his employer for over a year. Bill's boss has recently learned that Bill got the job by claiming to have a 4-year college degree although he is actually 22 hours short of graduating. As Bill's boss, would you dismiss him for submitting a fraudulent resume or overlook the false claim since Bill has otherwise proven to be a conscientious and likable worker? From an ethical decision making standpoint, if you were Bill's boss which option would you choose and explain your ethical reasoning.

SITUATION - 2 You have been told confidentially by management that the branch office you manage will be closed. You will be transferred, but all of your 24 employees will lose their jobs. In order to minimize any disruptions in productivity and overall operations, you are ordered to not tell anyone about the closing. What would you do...tell your employees or obey your boss? From an ethical decision making standpoint, which option would you choose and explain your reasoning.

SECOND PART...

This discussion asks you to review the motivation concepts, explain, and then address the following questions:

1. Provide us with some examples of those things your boss or employer does to motivate you.

2. Using the motivation techniques and theories, what things could or should your boss or employer do to motivate you or your co-workers.

3. Please offer your opinions on the motivation tools used or that might work at other places of employment.

THIRD PART...

The focus of the chapters we are currently covering is planning. Discuss some of these principles. Next, and most important, review operational planning and provide some specific policies, SOP's, rules, and regulations, etc.
