>> Informs
>> Has immediacy
>> Focuses on an event or development
>> Includes sourcing in the article
>> Reports facts and is impartial

2. Feature story:
>> Written for general readers
>> Explains and explores a topic in depth
>> Is timely but not necessarily immediate
>> Focuses on telling a story
>> Includes sourcing in the article
>> Reports facts and is impartial

3. Opinion piece or op-ed:
>> Written for general readers
>> Persuades
>> Is timely
>> Makes a cogent and well-reasoned argument
>> May quote sources in the article
>> Focuses on opinion but uses facts to make an argument

4. Scholarly article:
>> Written by and for faculty, researchers and scholars in technical and scholarly language
>> Shares and explains original research, experimentation, theories and ideas
>> Published in refereed or peer-reviewed journals
>> Includes full citation of sources

5. Report or white paper:
>> Written for general public, an organization or an audience outside an organization
