While there are many personal characteristics which are required for a good leader, I think the one personal characteristic which matters the most in leadership is integrity. I think a leader needs to have integrity to earn the trust of his or her followers or team. And, if a leader loses his integrity, he loses the faith of its followers and team.

One personal characteristic which detracts from leadership effectiveness is considering himself superior. If a leader considers himself superior, then it creates ego in him and because of that he loses the connection with his followers and team.

a. Is integrity the same as honesty?

b. You sometimes cannot be honest with the people you lead. Is this a problem?
