Your Role For the final project, you will act as a family law paralegal and help prepare necessary documents for the Shawn Brooks and Lori Thomas case. Each week, you will study more about the case, including the premarital agreement, divorce, property settlement, and child custody. You will apply various aspects of family law that you learn during the course to the given case. The documents you prepare should be of professional quality and suitable for a portfolio.

Week 2

In Week 1, you prepared the client intake sheet for Shawn and Lori. This week, use the sheet to prepare a Premarital Agreement for Shawn and Lori. They agree to have a provision in the agreement that the agreement will dissolve if they remain married for 10 years. Create the agreement in a Word document.

Week 3

Shawn and Lori get married on January 19, 1990, in a civil ceremony in Egg Harbor, New Jersey. They have two children, Connor, date of birth is February 24, 1991, and Clara, date of birth is June 1, 1993. In 1998, Shawn begins seeing another woman named Maryann Smith. In 2001, Lori finds out that Shawn is having an affair with another woman for the past three years. It is now March 2001, and Lori comes to your law firm and wants to file for divorce. Prepare a complaint for divorce on Lori's behalf for adultery. Prepare the complaint using the template.

Week 4

Your law firm serves Shawn with the complaint for divorce. Shawn has now retained an attorney, and his attorney has propounded interrogatories on your client, Lori. Use the scenario details of the final project to answer the interrogatories on her behalf. For the facts that are not included in the scenario, feel free to build the facts that you consider realistic and appropriate. You can use the template provided, a form of your own choosing, or create a Word document.

Week 5

On the basis of the answers to the interrogatories of both parties, Shawn and Lori have come to an agreement, and they want a Property Settlement Agreement. Both parties agree that Lori and Shawn will each retain all property prior to marriage, including their businesses and homes. Any property acquired after the marriage is to be distributed equally between them. Both Shawn and Lori do not have to pay alimony. The two children Connor and Clara will live with Lori, and Shawn will have the children every other weekend. They will rotate holidays and the children's birthdays; the children will be with Lori on Mother's Day and with Shawn on Father's Day. Shawn must pay Lori $100 per week for child support for both the children. Use the template to create the Property Settlement Agreement. In addition, prepare a Final Judgment of Divorce for Lori and Shawn. You can use the template provided to prepare the judgment.
