Feedback on Outline

After completing this unit's assignment, post your Project Annotated Outline and Annotated Bibliography to this discussion.

Identify how the references you included in your annotated outline and bibliography will address the topics outlined. Provide feedback to two peers regarding his or her outline. When giving feedback, use the following criteria:

- Identify the strengths of the work first. Comment on the linkage of the topic to the course, the method of applying coursework to practice, and the use of research and theory to form the scaffolding for the work.

- If indicated in your opinion, identify an area or areas that would benefit from expansion or clarification. When doing this, use the "I" viewpoint.

For example, "I think I understand what you have stated about how Erikson''s theory helps explain what happens in the middle years, but it''s not clear how you plan to apply this to professional practice. Please provide an example. I was also wondering if you have read a recent study that appeared in the American Psychologist about adult development. If you have not, I would be happy to send the reference along."

This critique is positive, professional, and identifies what the reader would like to learn about in greater depth. The author of the work, however, has options when responding to this feedback.

For example, he or she may say, "Thanks for the insights. I thought about that area but was not sure if it would relate to the agency where I work. No one is over 30! But now that I think about it, they will all become middle-aged one day, so I think I will take a look to see how to weave that into the material." Or, the author may reply with something like, "I see your point. I have to say, though, that my whole focus for this paper is to survey one area of research only. I am thinking I will be using it for a part of my dissertation one day. Thanks for your input."

With this peer feedback, the objectivity that comes from "fresh eyes" viewing one''s work can add clarity to the next step in completing the work. Remember, all written work is in draft form! It can be revised and strengthened, and this is an important element of the self-reflection process.

Your course instructor will also provide feedback to you on the annotated outline and annotated bibliography of your project.
