Extra Credit Opportunity: Guest Speaker

Dan Mathers, publisher of The WC Press magazine, will be in class Monday to provide us with an insider's perspective on starting (and growing) a local small business. In a sense, The WC Press is Dan's own "Big Idea," much like the project you're working on for your last presentation. It is my hope that the discussion will be lively and useful, and connect the semester's concepts and experiences to the community beyond WCU.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Prepare a list of 10 questions for Dan. You must bring your typed list with you and hand it in at the end of class. (Make sure your name is one it.)

In order to get the full points, your questions must reflect that you've done some research into The WC Press (check out current and previous issues at thewcpress.com). Your questions should also tie into some (any) of the content from the course. (Keep in mind Dan is not an expert on the theories and guidelines from our text, necessarily.).

Some possible areas for questioning, to get you started:

• Hiring and scouting new talent for the magazine
• Technology and its role in his business
• Adjusting the size/scale of the business according to demand
• Communication practices

Let it rip! This is someone who knows a huge assortment of movers and shakers in the West Chester community. You never know what kind of job/internship opportunity you might stumble upon.
