Exercise: Think of a situation in your life that needs to be changed but involves someone else changing his or her behavior for the problem to be solved. You cannot change the other person, so what can you change about how you think or behave that will allow you to move past the situation?

Think of a particular client whose problem involves someone else needing to change. How can you help the client resolve the problem without changing the other person?

Also, think of an experience in your life, or an example with one of your clients, where you failed to resolve the problem. What could you have learned from the failure to help you successfully resolve your problem or assist the client?
