Evaluating Meetings: Productive or Not? (Obj. 3) A recent poll of senior executives revealed that 45 percent thought that employees could be more productive if meetings were banned one day a week.67 Clearly, these executives would like to see their meetings improved. Now that you have studied how to plan and participate in productive meetings, you should be able to judge whether meetings are successful and why.

Your Task. Attend a structured meeting of a college, social, business, or other organization. Compare the way the meeting is conducted with the suggestions presented in this chapter. Why did the meeting succeed or fail? In class discussion or in a memo (see Chapter 8) to your instructor, discuss your analysis.
