Employee Health, Assistance, and Wellness

The following proposals have been submitted recently. You may select only one proposal from those given below. Any incurred cost will automatically be automatically charged against your budget and appear as "Incident Cost" in your Budget Report and Analysis screens.

1) The operations manager has written a memo requesting that a substance abuse program be initiated. He estimates that at least 50% of the absentees are the result of substance abuse. A local hospital is marketing a plan that includes counseling and medical intervention. (Cost: $6,000 per quarter for the remainder of the simulation)

2) Another local hospital has proposed a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program. In addition to substance abuse aid, the program would also focus on mental health, compulsive gambling, family and marital issues, legal problems, personal financial difficulties, and job/career problems. (Cost: $8,000 per quarter for the remainder of the simulation)

3) During the last meeting with a group of supervisors, the problem of job burnout was discussed. Many felt they had at least one employee who was experiencing burnout and even some of the supervisors expressed they were too. A workshop could be conducted by an outside consultant that would accommodate everyone who wished to attend. This would be a one-time cost for one workshop. (Cost: $4,000)

4) You received a proposal from a professor of health and wellness at the local university to provide a wellness program for your firm. The program would include seminars in smoking cessation, weight loss, exercise, back problem management, and stress management. He has arranged for a 50% discount at a local exercise facility for any employee in the program (the employee would pay the additional cost of this feature). (Cost: $4,000 per quarter for the remainder of the simulation)

5) None of the above.
