OBSERVATION:

I will be doing my student-teacher observation at Lucy Craft Laney Comprehensive High School located in Augusta, Georgia. Laney High School is in a predominately African American neighborhood. Built in 1949, the African American community takes extraordinary pride in this high school as it is named in the honor of a noted black educator, Ms. Lucy Craft Laney.

I will be observing Ms. Tiffany Owens, B.S. Ms. Owens majored in biology and graduated from Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. I will be observing her ninth-grade biology class at Lucy Laney Highschool. The anticipated lesson or activity is the study of cells. An appropriate theorist associated with this observation is Jean Piaget's theory of cognitive development. Piaget used schemas and assimilations in which a child pointed out an object and described it while the parent or teacher in this case, accommodates the assimilation and educates the child further about the object. To elaborate, while studying, the class will have an open discussion about the knowledge of cells through the chapter text and other activities. While students answer a prompt question from Ms. Owens, she will further educate her class about cells while preparing them for future testing. During the observation, I anticipate observing classroom discussion, engagement, note taking for studying methods, and hopefully a more hands on approach such as the use of microscopes to visually learn about cells and several types of animal cells under a lens.

Science has always been a favorite subject of mine preferably biology and anatomy I am looking forward to observing this class and studying diverse ways to teach students through scientific research.
