Each student is required to complete a 1,500 word Essay Assignment and submit it for assessment
Prior to submission each student must upload their work in to the plagiarism software program TURNITIN as per instructions.
Essay about:
A 12 year old boy presents to his general practitioner with a swollen painful elbow. He has been on holidays and alternated his days between long sessions on the computer and making a billy cart with friends. He had a few crashes in the billycart and landed on his elbow a couple of times. List 2 possible causes for his symptoms and discuss relevant anatomy, pathology and plain film imaging appearances, treatment and possible complications that might occur.
Instructions for the essay assignment
The assignment MUST be submitted in hard copy in the following format
- Typed - font 12pt Times New Roman
• 1 ½ spacing
• Harvard referencing
• At least 3 "research based" journal articles, and up to 2 current text books (within the last 4 years - older versions of classic radiology texts permissible).
Minimal use of a medical dictionary. You are strongly advised to regularly consult the "Q Manual" regarding how to construct and reference an academic essay using the Harvard style of referencing. Harvard style guidelines
The Harvard style is an author-date style. While there are documents guiding its use, there are acceptable variations used by universities and journals. This sample illustrates how to reference four types of publications according to Department's version of Harvard: a book, a journal article accessed online, a report accessed online and a website.
Please note:
Consistency, accuracy, punctuation and spacing are important
• In-text citations are identified by the authors' names and the publication year in brackets after the relevant word in the sentence
The reference list is in alphabetical order
• Position the in-text citation immediately after the relevant word and before the punctuation mark
When including page numbers in the in-text citation, use the format (Hafslund et al.• 2008, p. 344) or (Hafslund et al. 2008, pp. 344-345)
Use single quotation marks for direct quotations
• For in-text citations, in the first instance, when there are:
• o two authors, list the first two authors' names o three or more authors, list the first author's name followed by et al.
For all subsequent in-text citations for publications with two or more authors list
• only the first author's name followed by et al. In the reference list include all authors' names
