You are a member of a panel which has been invited to the Westmont College to describe the causes of famine. Each and every member of the panel has been assigned to research one of the given famines so the panel can discover shared causes and describe what can be done to prevent the similar outbreaks in the future. As a small group, decide which members will take which topics.

a) The Irish "Potato Famine" of 1846-50

b) The Sahelian (Ethiopian) famine of 1984-85

c) The Sudanese famine (1998-2000)

d) The North Korean famine (ongoing)

Each and every individual presentation must comprise a description of the social, political and environmental conditions which contributed to the famine in whole or in part, an explanation of the extent of the famine, efforts which were made to alleviate human suffering and the extent to which they were successful.
