Dr. Robert Moog (pronounced 'moge') worked in the 1950s to synthesize sounds, but the major breakthrough in moving from vacuum tubes to transistors and then to microchips came with his introduction of the Moog Synthesizer in 1967 and the making of recorded music with it soon thereafter.
