Disscussion topic: your right to be unsafe

There are many laws aimed solely at preventing you from hurting yourself. The requirements to wear motorcycle helmets and car seat belts are two examples. Should individuals be allowed to engage in unsafe activities, assuming they won't harm others as a result, if they choose to do so?

Please make it at least 200 words! Write with your own ideas and your own words. Thanks!

Also, please reply to the posts that I will paste below, it does not have to be at least 200 words but don't make it too short.

1st person: Engaging in unsafe activities

This is an interesting topic where it is hard to decide if one side should be taken. I like the idea that individuals can engage in unsafe activities, however we have to assume that they wont hurt anyone which is a big risk to take under any circumstances when it comes to harming others. Certain unsafe activities may be more harmful than others and if the law is lifted it can increase chances drastically which is why it should not be allowed.

2nd person: Your right to be unsafe

I guess the generalized answer would be yes, that individuals should be allowed to engage in unsafe activities. Although there should be a fine line of between the boundaries of riding a bicycle down the block with no helmet on and skydiving with no parachute on. In the case of abusing themselves such as cutting or even bruising it shouldn't be allowed since it is participating in acts of masochism. Activities like this would lead to breeding more troubled and complicated citizens in the future. There's serious social problems that will arise if allowing people to hurt themselves is a legal thing. So things of this nature shouldn't be allowed. Now taking it a step further to participating in suicide. This is a touchy and controversial topic. Participating in suicide in the physical sense it is self-inflicting and it does no harm to others, but in the emotional sense it most certainly affects the people around the them. Regardless of how far this question is taken for this topic, generally if this topic is for things along the nature of going to skate at the park with no protective gear then yes; the individual should be okay to participate in this. Though in a Severe scenario like cutting, bruising, and even suicide, then absolutely not. Laws are meant to protect people from harm even the ones that are purposefully trying to push the limits but not encourage harm.
