Topic 1

Identify the ethical issues in the movie (Boiler Room) and evaluate the situation using one of the ethical standards from the book or lecture for your initial post. For subsequent posts, catch problems with your peers' evaluations or add to their initial posts. After Wednesday, discuss which ethical standard is best (justify your reasoning).

Topic 2 Defining organizational communication.

Create your own definition of organizational communication for your initial post and carefully explain why it is the best. For subsequent posts, debate these definitions. What are the flaws or strengths in each definition? Try to respond to several people's definitions. Why is theirs not best? Give reasons! (No one's feelings can get hurt here-- this is an academic argument!) Third, go back and defend your definition against attack-- why are those attacking the definition wrong? Let's try to get a good debate over definitions going here-- remember to be nice as you explain why someone is wrong. Later in the unit, as a group explore what the commonalities are and suggest a "best" definition for organizational communication.
