In this unit you started simulation game play. One of the key goals in the Conscious Competence simulation is to create a conscious business in contrast to the traditional profit-maximizing business paradigm. During this first week of game play the team will be creating a corporate culture which will be the foundation for all of the business decisions you make from an ethics perspective.

In the global economy there are many strong ties between corporate ethics and profit. McMurrian and Matulich offer this hypothesis, "In fact, a reputation for ethical business activities can be a major source of competitive advantage" (2006, p. 11). Jakobs (2014) agrees, "Ethical business can have a hugely positive effect on the bottom line and an invaluable effect in the long term" (para 7).

As you are working in the simulation and growing globally, we must look at ethics in a more expanded and global perspective and seek the answers to these questions:

  1. Conduct research and cite at least three examples from academically credible sources to validate the legitimacy of the statements made above by McMurrian and Matulich and Jakobs. In your research you may find evidence that supports this view and also evidence that contradicts it. Presenting all of your research results can enhance the quality of the discussion.
  2. Given the difference in cultural ethics world-wide and the research you are conducting, can your company's ethical standards be applied universally? Why or why not? Please support your response with academically credible sources. You may provide examples to support your thoughts with companies identified in your research, or information from your current or past employer to aid in supporting your points and enhancing the quality of the overall learning for everyone.
  3. Post the APA compliant results of your research to include at least one company that has successfully applied their ethics or values with profitable results and at least one company that has lost profit dollars when they have acted in non-compliance with their ethics.

In GB590: Ethics in Business and Society, you analyzed many cases that dealt with leadership ethical decision making. You may want to revisit the good work you completed in GB590 to augment the research you are completing for this Discussion response.
