Discussion Question

Describe self-managed work groups and the situations for which they are best suited. Follow-up with a response to the following question: Why are self-managed work groups more likely to be found in high involvement plants?

Homework
In this unit you learned about structural design and employee involvement. You also learned about job re-engineering.

Assemble the diagnostic data into a framework and prepare feedback to the senior administrators of the hospitals. What's your sense of the organization's current structure and employee involvement issues?
What changes would you recommend? Is a total quality management intervention appropriate here? What alternatives would you propose?
Design an implementation plan for your preferred intervention.
Be sure that you describe the most common organization structures used today as well as their strengths and weaknesses. Describe the employee involvement and how it relates to performance. Consider whether there should be a sociotechnical systems work design.

For this unit, read about what you will be doing for the final presentation. You have a milestone due in this unit. You will complete an Annotated Bibliography for the research you conduct on this project. You will need a total of eight (8) scholarly sources for your presentation.
For this week, write one paragraph that explains the topic of your final presentation. You will need at least four of your final sources for this assignment. If you need help understanding what an Annotated Bibliography is, you may check the library.
