Good leadership skills will always be in high demand because good leaders know how to run firms that efficiently and effectively add to the top line, increase customer satisfaction, and continually add value to the firm's products/services. However, the essence of what a good leader actually is has been debated for years, especially in MBA programs.

The greatest leader of all time was our Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus encourages us to be great leaders by following His will and His ways. The Bible is filled with verses of Christ encouraging you to be a leader. These verses to not say to lead by merely commanding others, but instead to serve others first. Jesus believes that good leaders can lead by putting the interests of others first, by investing in others, and by working together for common goals and objectives as well as by being humble in spirit and actions. Below, you will find several quotations that put into perspective the importance of humility as a leadership trait. Jesus never wavered or lost sight of the overall mission and objective of coming down from Heaven to save us. Just like Jesus, you must always remember His teachings about being humble, hard working servants and never lose sight of how a good leader interweaves these facets throughout a firm and its corporate strategy.

"Good leaders must first become good servants." Robert Greenleaf

"True leadership must be for the benefit of the followers, not to enrich the leader." John C. Maxwell

Here are several Bible verses related to gaining vision and insights into becoming a leader by following:

"So he answered and said, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and ‘your neighbor as yourself.'" (Luke 10:27, NKJV)

"And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men." (Colossians 3:23, NKJV)

"For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority." (Colossians 2:9-10, NIV)

"But Jesus called them to Himself and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who are great exercise authority over them. Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave-just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.'" (Matthew 20:25-28, NKJV)

"So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, ‘Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.'" (John 13:12-15, NKJV)

"Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away." (1 Peter 5:2-4)
