RESEARCH TOPIC: Long- term care for Alzheimer's Disease

RESEARCH STATEMENT: How Alzheimer affect patients and families mentally and physically?

PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH: Statistically, patients with Alzheimer is pointed out that 15% of the American population who are above 70 years old are affected by this disease (Shih, Concannon, Liu, & Friedman, 2014). This statistic was presented in 2015 and based on the trend, it was rising.

It means in most homes, there will be at least one person with Alzheimer meaning that more pressure will be on the person who is taking care of he/she.

In account of this, it implies that most families will need to understand the roles they play in identification of care facilities, staffing, and information collection in line with affordability and security (National Institute on aging, n.d.).

In actuality therefore, family should understand the role they play in intervention and the outcome of long- term health care providers and also affect the patients' as well as their emotional, financial and physical wellbeing (Gaugler, 2005).

RESEARCH FOR TOPIC: Alzheimer's affects memory and thus the basic functionality of a human to effectively make a everyday decision by themselves. This means the most important factor is consistency in the availability of human resources throughout the period of the term.

In effect, it leads a step by step consideration of the impact of Alzheimer's on the patients' and the family's wellbeing emotionally and physically. Accountability for the effects the disease will have is not measured by determining how long a person will have this disease, but until the body can't respond anymore to human life.

DEFINITIONS:

ALZHEIMER- progressive mental deterioration that can occur in middle or old age, due to generalized degeneration of the brain.

LIFESPAN- the length of time for which a person functions.

LOSS OF MEMORY- That disrupts daily life may be a symptom of Alzheimer's or other dementia.
