Discussion Assignment - Ethical Issues in Negotiations

Select one of the cases found below:

1. You want to work out an arrangement with your instructor to extend your project submission date by one week. You have simply procrastinated, but you tell your instructor (via your email) that your hard drive "crashed" and your work was lost.

2. You have purchased an article of clothing from a store. You wore it once, didn't like it and you want to return it. But the item was a clearance item and the store policy is that all sales are final. You return to the store and after the "usual inquiries" you begin to become upset and agitated in the middle of the store with other customers present.

3. You are interviewing individuals for a position as your assistant. The person you hire is an old classmate you have not heard from in several years, but with whom you had a good relationship. This person you hired is not the most qualified according to the job description and requirements.

After selecting one of the cases, post your answers to the following questions in the discussion forum:

1. Tell us what case you chose.
2. What do you think are the ethical issues in the case?
3. Discuss how you would resolve the ethical issues and the reasons supporting your decisions.

In addition, choose one of your classmate's postings who answered a different case than you, and comment on that posting.
