Discussion : Gender and Media

After you've watched the clips (located in the module Gender and Media), find your own example of a media product (television show, movie, song, etc.) not already shown in the clips that does one of the following:

• Illustrates one of the concepts (e.g., smurfette principle) or central points from the clips. OR

• Provides a good example of a media portrayal that contradicts the problematic patterns discussed in the clips.

Your analysis on the "Gender & Media" discussion board. Directly explain the central point or concept from the clip and how it applies to your example.

Provide a link to the example (for example, if it's a film, a link to the film's official website or to a trailer), but describe it in enough detail that the connection will be clear from your discussion alone.

Respond to at least one classmate's post in one of the following ways:

• Point out other central points or concepts from the clips that the example illustrates.

• Explain what you think the impact (positive or negative) of this particular media example would be.

Remember that the best responses will directly refer to and cite the course materials.
