Ad trends?

According to a 2011 Nielson survey, American consumers prefer funny advertisements - and talk about them with friends and family more often than other types of ads (Garun, 2012). Consider some of the "big" commercial hypes of the past few years, are more of these commercials funny than not? What other trends in advertising do you notice?

Review the Week 8 readings and videos.

Choose a product or service from these examples:

• Fast food
• Class of consumer product
• Personal care
• Automobile

Find examples (online, in print, or on TV or radio) and analyze how that product or service has been advertised.

Prepare a 9- to 12-slide Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation in which you investigate the role of advertising in a culture of consumerism.

Include the following:

• What techniques were used to get the consumer to buy?

• Who determines ethical standards for advertising?

• In what ways has advertising affected American culture?

Use specific examples.

Include detailed speaker notes and images that support your content. Each slide should have three to four bullets of text, which are a high-level overview of what is included in your speaker notes. You may write the speaker notes in the notes section of your selected presentation tool or in a separate Word document.

Cite your references on the last slide.

Format your presentation according to appropriate course-level APA guidelines.
