• List of domains covered in Part I of the course. Consider at least TWO of the following domains in your paper. The two domains need not be discussed in equal length: You may focus on one more than the other. I recommend that you discuss a single topic that combines the two domains.
• Israeli human or natural geography
• Israeli demography
• Zionism and the Yishuv
• The Conflict
• The Israeli political system
• The Israeli legal system
• The Israeli economic system
• The Israeli educational system
• Military-civil relations in Israel
• Arab-Jewish relations in Israel

The issue (or issues) that you focus on should be more specific than, say, immigration, absorption, demography, or the Israeli economic system. Narrow the particular topic that you discuss. You may discuss any issue you wish if it fits the parameters described above.

• You might, for ex, discuss immigration by discussing housing and work among Mizrahi immigrants, political participation and language among Russian immigrants, education and work among members of the "new" Yishuv, and so forth. You might discuss the changing demographics and human geography of Mizrahi and Arab citizens of the State of Israel, religious identity among Russian and Ethiopian immigrants, and so forth. You might discuss associations between an immigration wave (pre- or post-state) and the Conflict, the effects of immigration on Jewish-Arab relations within Israel (during a particular period), effects on the Israeli economy, and so forth. Your choices are many and, despite its length, this is far from being an exhaustive list!
