1. In "Mother Tongue," Amy Tan reiterates the fact that there are different types of English that people speak. Do you think people should continue to be expected to speak Standard English in professional environments? Write an essay in which you support or disapprove the continuous expectation of using Standard English in professional environments. You must provide three different reasons in your thesis statement and in the body of your essay.

2. In "The Story of An Hour," Kate Chopin reveals a woman's plight of being trapped in an unwanted marriage. Had divorce been an option for Mrs. Mallard, are there acceptable grounds on which she could have filed for divorce? Write an essay in which you argue three different grounds on which Mrs. Mallard could have filed for divorce.

3. The Baltimore City Police Department is using social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter to solve crimes. Do you approve or disapprove of police departments' use of social media to solve crimes? Write an essay in which you provide three different reasons why police departments should or should not utilize social media this way.

4. Donald Trump suggested "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" as a result of terrorist attacks by radical Muslims such as those involved in ISIS. Do you support or disapprove of this type of policy? Write an essay in which you argue for or against the United States' adoption of this type of policy.
