CLASSMATE'S POST
The sociological theory that I would like to elaborate on is mixing different cultures in neighborhoods or social environments.
This is something that I learned in the military about people of different ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, and social groups being in the same environment to learn the differences in their fellow neighbors and to learn to respect them. I feel as though there's a lot of crime among cultures because no one understands the beliefs in others.
People need to be integrated into the same environment so that they can learn what it is that others believe, why they believe the things that they do, and try to help others around them have an open mind to see that we all are different, however, we all strive to be good to each other. Until I learned the exactly what different religions believed in my Religions class in my last degree, I didn't understand and did not want to hear anything about no one else's beliefs.
After learning in school about other's beliefs, I can now understand what it is that they believe and can see it with an open mind. I feel as though everyone who is enrolled in college should have to take this class. I say this because all it takes is a word of mouth to teach others what is right when it comes to religion. After studying these religions, I found out that we all believe in one Supreme Being and that we should all do good to our fellow brothers and sisters on this earth.
I feel as though if we all respect each other, it will minimize crime in our nation. There are a lot of people who were against Muslims because of the attacks that the United States endured; however, the people who attacked us were extremists and radicals. They are not just Muslims with the same beliefs of regular Muslims. Because a lot of people do not know this, they tend to be offensive to all Muslims. I feel as though people need to be educated on all religions and cultural backgrounds so that they will know that people are not out to hurt them, and the way to start this is to begin in college.
