Part 1

Developmental psychology, as a relatively young science, has relied in some ways on the empirical traditions of the scientific method. In other ways, the science has been informed by less measurable "truths".

Consider the pros and cons of using the scientific method and empirical data to guide the study of developmental psychology. You might consider the three domains of human development as outlined in chapter 1 of your text and some of the theories outlined in chapter 2 of your text. How does empirical data inform each? How are the theories or domains informed by data that is not necessarily empirical? 
Finally, to what degree do you think developmental psychology is an objective vs. subjective investigation?

Part 2

Find, Review, Report, and Cite an article published in a mainstream (i.e., intended for a general audience) periodical (e.g., Time, Newsweek, Psychology Today, etc.) which addresses an issue in developmental psychology. Briefly critique the article. Were the findings and generalizations made based on empirical or subjective research? How does this affect your own processing of the article?
