Develop a use case for the system described in the following narrative. Research is a part of NC State. Several funding agencies publish call for research proposals (CFP) that are targeted towards academics to apply for grants. To manage the sheer amount of calls and proposals, NC State is planning to have a system in place to manage this process. Here is a snippet about what kind of system will help them. The funding agency can access the system through a web portal to post the call for research proposals. The system sends out the call to all the faculty members through an email to whom the call may be relevant to. This functionality is in place to make sure that for example PCOM faculty is not getting a CFP for cancer cell research. The interested faculty members develop the proposal and submit it to the system for the research support department to make sure that all the requirements of the call are met in the proposal. The support department communicates with the faculty member about any discrepancies until the proposal is ready to be submitted. The faculty submits a final version of the proposal to the system and gets a submission notification. The proposal generates a notification for the department head of the faculty member to approve the proposal for submission in the system. Once the department head approves the proposal, the system generates the notification for the associate provost of research to approve the proposal for submission in the system. Once the associate provost approves the proposal, the proposal is submitted to the funding agency’s system. Through all this process, the faculty and research department gets updates about the progress of the proposal submission process. Once the funding agency announces the decision on the proposals, the system communicates that to the relevant faculty and their department heads. In case of the proposal acceptance, the system informs the faculty about the next steps to do to start their research.
