Detective Watson was investigating the murder of four prostitutes that had been murdered over the past three months in the City of York. He focused his investigation on Patrick Bateman, a mild mannered executive who worked in York's financial district. In studying photographs from each crime scene, Detective Watson noticed that Bateman was present as a spectator at every murder scene. Other than that, he had no other hard evidence.

Detective Watson decided to pay Mr. Bateman a visit at his (Bateman's) home one Sunday afternoon. Watson, dressed in blue jeans and a polo shirt, knocked on Bateman's door. When Bateman answered Watson identified himself as a police officer and asked for permission to enter in order to speak with Bateman. Bateman agreed. He took Watson into his kitchen and offered him a seat. He also offered him some tea which Watson accepted. Watson then got to the point. He told Bateman about his investigation and the fact that he had noticed Bateman at every crime scene. He further told Bateman that he (Watson) found that strange. He asked Bateman if he had an explanation for his presence at all four crime scenes. Bateman asked Watson if he was there to arrest him. Watson answered no. Bateman then stated "That's too bad because if you don't arrest me I will kill another prostitute as soon as I have the chance." He quickly added "I killed those other whores and before I die I will rid this city of the sins of the flesh." At that point Detective Watson immediately placed Bateman under arrest for the four murders.

In a pre-trial motion, Bateman's attorney moved to have his clients statements suppressed since they were taken in violation of his rights under Miranda v. Arizona. You are the judge. How do you rule? Explain your answer thoroughly.
