Description of the research project

This research is called secondary data analyses. Your research project, which constitutes 20% of your grade is a secondary analyses of data from the General Social Survey.

Lit Review & Final Report

After finalizing your intro, methods and results, you have one more task to complete: Please compare your results to the findings in the current literature. Search the literature and identify three references that are on the same topic or related. You will find details on compiling your literature under the lit review and final report tab. Compare their findings to your findings. If your results are different than theirs, speculate on potential reasons for it. Present the information on one or two slides with the title "Place in Literature."

Final Paper: Instructions
Instructions

The final paper is a team paper-that is, it will be written by all members of your team and all members will receive the same grade for the paper (except for unusual circumstances). The team should identify the contribution of each member to the writing of the paper when it is submitted. Analyses discussed in this paper will be based on data from the General Social Survey. The paper should be no more than 10-12 pages long.

Please use APA style and the following subheadings in the paper:

I. Title Page
This page should list the title of your paper, all authors, the date, and a running head (a header used on all subsequent pages).

II. Abstract
This should briefly tell the reader, in 150 words or less, what your study is about, what methods you used, and what you found.

III. Introduction and Literature Review (2-3 pages)Start with the objectives and rationale for the study, the study's importance.
Then move to the background of the issue or problem that you have studied, and the previous research done in this area. There should be at least 6 references, including Rubin & Babbie.

IV. Methodology (1-2 pages)
Include the following information:
Hypotheses or research questions (should flow logically from your literature review)
Population and sampling method, sample size (united states)
Data collection methods and instruments (GSS which was used)
Data analyses

V. Findings (3-4 pages)
First give the reader an overview of the demographic profile of your sample. Tell the reader what you found and refer the reader to your tables or charts. Tables and/or charts may either be in the body of the paper or in the appendices. For each table or chart, assign a number, a title, and labels and tell the reader what each means.

VI. Discussion and Conclusion (2-3 pages)
In this section, you will draw conclusions and practical implications for social work or social policy based on your findings. Tell the reader what you think your findings mean. You should also discuss the limitations of your study and suggestions for future research.

VII. References and Appendices

Using APA style, list all references cited in your paper (at least six). You can also place tables here. For additional guidance in writing your report, please review Rubin & Babbie, Appendix B: Writing Social Work Research Reports.
