Write a five-paragraph essay (2 to 3 pages) on one of the poems for this lesson- The Seafarer, The Wanderer, or The Wife's Lament. Your essay must discuss as well as illustrate the theme of exile. In your essay you should:
Deliberate the elements of Anglo-Saxon lyrics in reference to the poem's theme of exile. How do caesuras, kennings, repetition and alliteration contribute to create an elegiac feel a sense of sadness, grief, or loss and express the theme of exile?
Originate your essay with a strong introduction and a thesis statement. Through the body of your essay, clearly deliberate elements of the poem that help support your thesis.
Be sure to use instances and quotations from the poem. Support your claims besides cite appropriately using MLA Style. Remember when repeating a poem give the line number(s) for the quotation, not the page number. For assistance with MLA style, appointment the Purdue Online Writing Lab.
If you wish you may mention to or quote secondary sources in your essay but, if you do, you want to include a works cited list. Note that the works cited list doesn't count toward the 2 to 3 pages requirement.
