Industrialization in the United States

Industrialization in the United States The United States went through a prolonged period of civil war that proceeded industrialization. The Americans became more resilient and focused on building their nation through industrialization. However, much as the industrialization process took too long to be pursued, it changed the political, economic and social status of the American society.

The industrialization process changed the lives of many Americans because many jobs were created which absorbed a large population of the people (Sequeira, Nunn & Qian, 2017). Moreover, the economic condition of the United States took a positive trajectory and grew tremendously as a result of improved technology and farm mechanization. On the other hand, industrialization led to the emergence labor movements and trade unionists that were agitating for the workers’ rights.

The industrialization process is associated with such aspects as the rise of many businesses that contributed to the economic growth of the United States and the well-being of the people. Moreover, there was an emergence of laissez-faire policy of governance whereby the government did not have enough rules of governance therefore, the government let the business owners regulate and monitor their own businesses (McGuire, J. T. (2017). Equally, another aspect was the emergence of a large population that contributed to the workforce. Many people were moving from rural areas to urban areas in search of employment.

The industrialization process affected different groups in different ways. Such groups include the African Americans, the Native Americans, the lower and middle classes, the women and the rural farmers. The African –Americans experienced biases in wages where they were being paid little compared to their white counterparts (Bonilla-Silva, 2017). On the other hand, the native Americas suffered a big blow because much of their land was put under industrialization, forcing them to migrate to other parts. Elsewhere, the lower and middle class suffered in the hands of employers who saw them as factors of production and not human beings forcing the introduction labor unions to defend their rights. The women, on the other hand, were subjected to harsh working conditions and some were reduced to working in homes and earned very low wages. Furthermore, the rural farmers experienced trouble in finding labor because most of the working population had migrated to urban areas in search of employment.

The industrialization process affected the average working Americans in ways such as being subjected to harsh working conditions, earning very low wages, being harassed by factory owners and being forced to work for long hours. Positively, industrialization enabled many people to improve their lives.

In summary, the industrialization process changed the lives of many Americans because many jobs were created which absorbed a large population of the people. The major aspects of industrialization include the emergence of a bigger working population, the laissez-faire governance and the rise of many businesses.
