Course Project Instructions

Instructions

As part of the course you will be asked to manage a project. It is worth 220 points toward your final grade. You will need to use a Project Software.

You can use Microsoft Excel, Libre, or your own organization's project management software. Detailed software download instructions, documents, templates (including the table of contents for your Course Project Book) are in the Course Project Book templates folder in the Tools & Resources tab. Please follow the instructions listed below:

Brainstorm a project.

Select something you are very familiar with.

The project should take the executing team at least 160 hours to complete and require at least four skill sets (people) in the execution phase (i.e. Carpenter, Electrician, Heavy Equipment Operator, Plumber, etc.)

You are the planning and executing Project Manager. You will create the project plan to use as a blueprint; then you will simulate the project halfway through the execution phase (i.e. 50% done). You simulate the project though that timeline to demonstrate how much resource, time, and budget was used to that point.

You must submit the name of the project (i.e. Build a home for resale, develop a social network site, replace a software system, etc.) to me in the form of a Work Request (found in the Tools and Resourcesfolder). Note the due date in the Syllabus Calendar of Activities.

You should utilize Appendix A and the Video resources provided in www.intropm.com of your text.

Your final project folder will contain all of the documents listed in the table of contents in the Course Tools and Resources folder for your reference.

You will turn in the project as a series of electronic documents (Word .docx or PDFs) in the same order of the Table of Contents in the Course Tools and Resources folder.

Course Project Documents

The following MS Word documents are required in your final project. They must be complete and accurate (realistic) in relation to your project. Templates are available in Tools and Resources.

Work Request which includes ROI Analysis

Project Charter

Scope Statement

Communications Plan

Quality Management Plan

Risk Management Plan

Deliverables Report

Milestone Report

Lessons Learned Report

The following are the associated Microsoft Excel work and templates are available in Tools and Resources with additional guidance found in your text.

RACI Chart

Initial Draft Schedule of Activities

Be sure to check the Calendar of Activities carefully for due dates on all assignments/papers as some weeks may require completion of more than one module of work.

Lastly, you will be assigned to a Group. Please note that the group acts as your project team. Each student will complete their own, individual project (Project Book).

The Group is available for guidance, for sharing best practices, for reviewing documents; in general, serving on your "project team".

There are no points assigned as a member of the group. Please actively participate, as you would on any real-life group project.

You should begin to review the information, located underTools and Resources,to assist you in completing the course project.

Starting in Module 2, you will have assignments that will become a component of your overall project. If you struggle on one of the assignments, you have the opportunity to learn from the assignment and submit a corrected version with your project book at the end of the course.
