Consider two warehouses near an Interstate. One is a distribution center (DC) owned by a retailer. It receives semitrailers from vendors, manufacturers, etc. Smaller trucks deliver to retail sites in a 150 mile radius. The other site is a commercial LTL terminal. Small trucks deliver product to be transported. Semitrailers either leave for a specific destination when loaded or on a daily schedule. Describe warehouse dock and vehicle patterns, and the relative holding/detention time of handled goods. Which facility is bigger, which has longer detention/holding time for the same "q" (trucks/day). Recall Q = Vol/t; Detention q = Vol/q.
