Comfort entails meet the needs of comfort being addressed. In healthcare, these needs include physical, sociocultural, physical, and environmental needs (Smith & Parker, 2015).

Two comfort theory interventions that I will be addressing in this discussion are coaching and comfort food for soul. Coaching interventions are supportive actions by nurses, providing reassurance, and referring nurses to other health care providers (Smith & Parker, 2015).

Mostly, nurses focus on implementing technical interventions. Coaching interventions which comes in handy when it comes to administering care. Patients barely remember technical interventions but those non-document moments with healthcare providers.

For advanced practice nurse, comfort food for the soul and coaching are the most important things that one should focus on. Comfort food for the soul are extra holistic and special care.

For example, guided imagery and music for therapy would come in handy in this intervention. Such moments are sustaining and satisfying for nurses and more importantly for patients (Smith & Parker, 2015).

There is need for the patients and nurses to experience meaningful moment with each other and family members. This is the kind of intervention that nurses should focus on.

I found MSN essential IX as the one that mostly aligns with this theory. This essential requires nurses to include both direct and indirect components in providing care. Direct care components are those defined by nursing procedure while indirect components are not.

Essential IX requires one to establish therapeutic relationships with the aim of creating a patient centered care which is also culturally appropriate (AACN, 2011).
