COM 6501 Fall 2016 A note on your prospectus.

I realize that some of this is a repetition of my earlier missive. When I ask for 5,000 words of text, (not including the title page, the abstract, or references, or appendices) I want that number as a minimum. If you turn in 2,500 words of text, your top grade would fall to 50. Placing illustrations or charts into the text will not count toward the length rule.

Now I am telling you to write 5,000 words of text. Use APA 6th for setting your margins and type size. I would suggest New Courier. That face will take about 250 words per page. I know that a fairly large portion of your prospectus will be your literature review. But do not simply transfer 10 of your précis to the paper. You need to explain how you will obtain your sample, what test you will employ, and mention a bit about it.

Perhaps you will include it in an appendix. And if you only have 10 references, you will not do well on the paper. For a thorough job of researching those who have gone before you in this science, you must convince me that you have exhausted the sources available. If you do not propose a controlled experiment in human communication that is actually doable, you will not do well in grading.

Remember the catch-phrase: "Test for change." DO NOT PRETEND you have actually done the experiment. Simply propose the experiment and how you WOULD carry it out. Some students refuse to follow this instruction. If you do pretend, I will subtract substantial points.
