Case Study: Theory Application

Nina is a 3 year old girl who is having trouble tying her shoe after it becomes untied during outside playtime at her preschool. Her teacher, Mr. Griesman, is unsure what he should do to help her. Please respond to all of the following questions. Your answers should include explanations (e.g., why do you think a particular theorist would recommend certain actions or descriptions of Nina's learning behaviors?). When answering, take into consideration each theorist's stance on the major questions of development we went over last class: stability vs. plasticity, continuous vs. discontinuous, one vs. multiple courses of developmental trajectories, and nature vs. nurture.

1) What would Vygotsky (Sociocultural Theory) recommend to Mr. Griesman as a way to teach Nina how to tie her shoes? Why would Vygotsky recommend these things OR how do they fit within his theory? Please write a paragraph answer.

2) What would Albert Bandura recommend to Mr. Griesman as a way to teach Nina how to tie her shoes? Why would Bandura recommend these things OR how do they fit within his theory? Please write a paragraph answer.

3) What would Jean Piaget (Cognitive- development Theory) recommend to Mr. Griesman as a way to teach Nina how to tie her shoes? Why would Piaget recommend these things OR how do they fit within his theory? Please write a paragraph answer.
