Case Scenario

The staff members at Smiley Hospital are assigned to specific patient age groups and their responsibilities differ across the unit.

The staff has been complaining that their evaluations do not accurately measure their responsibilities and that they are being measured on performance outcomes they cannot control.

Morale is low because they believe their work is not being recognized or distributed fairly (leadership/ethical issue).

The directors at Smiley Hospital have been challenged with developing a new way to fairly assign and assess individual performances according to their various job descriptions.

Scenario Number 2

Identify the Problem.

Analyze the Problem and Ethical Considerations.

Staff think that the leader is providing more work than their responsibility criteria depending on the unit they are working in.

The staff believes their work is being unrecognized and that the manager/leader doesn't recognize the extra work they are putting in that they are not required to do. The leader is giving them more duties and during reviews and evaluation their hard work is not recognized and they are being pointed out for things that are not in control of them.

Solution #1

Potential Positive Effects

Potential Negative Effects

As a leader I should conduct a meeting and make clear what my expectations are and what duties is part of their requirement.

Staff will express their concerns and notify me on what bothers them and we can come to an agreement of what is expected.

Possibility some staff members will quit or disagree with my terms and conditions of what is expected.

Solution #2

Potential Positive Effects

Potential Negative Effects

Collect all data and figure out a plan that is best for staff and leader.

Staff will be happy and we can come to an agreement that suits both staff and I.

Staff might disagree with the plans I have conducted to suit both of us.

Solution #3

Potential Positive Effects

Potential Negative Effects

Have staff provide me with solutions they would like and I can collect all data and express what the outcome is.

I get to keep the staff happy and come to an agreement and resolution and a healthy work environment.

I might not agree with what staff is asking for and giving the staff too much privilege might affect work in the long run.
