EXCERPT(Laura Johnson) : Falconbridge's account of the slave trade and the middle passage tells us that the nature of the Atlantic Slade trade was absolutely awful. When the slaves would first be brought on the ship, they would gather all the sick or disabled slaves who couldn't do labor and would often kill them off. The rest of the slaves would be stuffed in the bottom deck where they had little to no space and sometimes they would have to lay on top of each other. The conditions were also terrible, it was very hot and the floor was covered in blood and mucus. A lot of the slaves would get pass out from the heat or they would get sick and die before the ship even made it to land. They were treated very harshly and their living space was brutal.
