Research

Choose an occupation that interests you as a future career. Research the topic using the following information sources as your guide:

a. One book that you have access using Topcat - WKU's Online Catalog
b. One Journal article that you have accessed online through WKU Libraries Web-Accessible Databases
c. One FREE resource that you have access online (examples are Google, Yahoo, etc.)
d. The Occupational Outlook Handbook available online at: http://www.bls.gov/oco

The Assignment

Prepare a 1-2 page typed paper that summarizes the differences between each of the information sources you have identified, and how your perceptions about the career have changed after researching the topic. Which sources were easiest to use and most beneficial? Did they give salary ranges for the career you chose? Did they include educational requirements? What other information was listed in relation to your topic? Do not forget to tell how the information has helped shape your opinion of the career and the choices you will make for the future. Also, list each information source you used to complete this assignment on a Works Cited Page.

Papers must be typewritten in 12 point font and be free of grammatical errors and organized following the specifications above. Students will submit their papers via Blackboard. This assignment is worth 80 points towards a possible 100 points for the Library Skills Component. All papers must include the student's name, UC 175 section number and UC 175 Instructor's name.
