Business Report Assignment -
Brief - You are a CSR consultant and you have been asked to write a 1,000 word Business Sustainability Report for Hargron Property Development in which you make recommendations on how to improve the sustainable practices of the company.
Hargron Property Development (HPD)* is an established and successful property developer based in Perth, WA. The company has been developing commercial and residential properties for over 40 years, but it has not kept pace with developments in sustainable building and its reputation is suffering as a result.
In an effort to improve its CSR profile, the company is working on a low-rise, high-density housing project called the 'Western Vista Development'. This is aimed at providing affordable, energy efficient housing that promotes sustainable living.
The CEO of HPD is drafting a proposal for the council, outlining areas on which the development can focus in order to achieve its objective.
You are required to prepare a business report for HPD which gives recommendations on sustainable practices for the project. In particular, the report should focus on:
1. Water efficiency
2. Energy efficiency
PART A: GROUP PRESENTATION
In groups of 3-4, deliver a presentation of 5-8 minutes, where you discuss one of the academic sources that you have chosen to use as a reference for your business report.
You will be assigned to groups in week 4.
You need to submit your chosen source to your lecturer for approval by week 8.
All group members should speak for approximately the same amount of time.
Visual aids (e.g. Powerpoint, Presi) must be used for the presentation.
Your presentation should follow this structure:
1. Introduce the title, author(s), and location that you found the source (e.g. the journal or book that the source is from) and how you found it (i.e. what was the research process you followed to find the source?).
2. Demonstrate that this is an academic source (explain how it meets the criteria for an academic source that were discussed in class).
3. Summarise the relevant key ideas from the source.
4. Explain how you will use these key ideas in your business report and why these are relevant.
PART B: PLAN
Your plan should include the following sections:
- Introduction
- Findings & Discussion
- Conclusion & Recommendations
- Reference list
Each section should include the following:
- Key ideas for each section, written in bullet points
- In-text references with the sources that you will use to support these key ideas
A sample plan will be provided in class.
PART C: BUSINESS REPORT
Your Business Report should include the following sections:
- Title Page
- Executive Summary
- Table of Contents
- Introduction
- Findings & Discussions
- Conclusion & Recommendations
- Reference List
The sections should be numbered according to the guidelines and sample provided in class.
