Prepare a SWOT analysis for Premier Inn Company.

What is involved?

  • Choose a business topic/area and an organisation.
  • Present a Business Report on your chosen topic.
  • The report will demonstrate your ability to apply your business skills to plan, research, analyse, draw conclusions and communicate business reasoning.

Focus of the Report -

  • The Report should focus on a business issue which will allow you to suggest recommendations for the organisation
  • Structure your report around a question
  • This will in be in terms of how it relates to the issue and/or meeting the needs of the organisation's internal/external stakeholders

Introduction

  • WHAT - What is the purpose of the report and background information on the company (what does it do? - even if it is obvious!)
  • HOW- Describe the analytical tool to be used and how/why it is used (Eg I will use a SWOT analysis to identify current internal strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities)

  • Use of accounting ratios to analyse profitability
  • Product Life Cycle Extension Strategies Analysis
  • Product Portfolio Analysis (Boston Matrix)
  • You will have to explain what the chosen technique shows and how it fits in with the purpose of your report

Research Methods and Sources

  • Explain the suitability and reliability of research methods and sources used
  • At least 2 sources must be used to gain full marks (Try to use one desk and one field)
  • State advantages and disadvantages of these sources

  • Audio/visual media
  • Interviews/surveys questionnaires

Analysis and Interpretation

  • Making analytical and/or interpretative comments based on the information/evidence collected - YOU MUST INCLUDE OR MAKE REFERENCE TO YOUR FINDINGS.
  • More than one comment may be made from each piece of evidence/findings
  • No MARKS will be awarded for findings

Analysis and Interpretation of Findings

  • Review and evaluate evidence
  • Make a comment
  • Draw out and relating implications or provide and explanation

Conclusion and Recommendations

  • Conclusions are not new - they are drawn from analysis from the report - must be based on analysis and/or supported by evidence in report
  • Each conclusion and/or recommendation drawn from the research finding
  • Conclusion - Based on positives toy have find why?
  • Recommendations - Based on negatives that you have found - why?
  • One or more conclusion and recommendation must be made.

Collating and Reporting Findings

  • The assignment should be no longer than 6 sides of A4 paper (not including the front cover - max 11 pages including appendices)
  • If using word processing you should use a minimum of size 11 font and 1.5 line spacing
  • Use headings and business terminology
  • Display materials effectively

  • A list of all sources used
  • Statistical, graphical or numerical data
  • A list of internet search engines
  • Newspaper articles or extracts Extracts/photos/images from websites
  • Maximum of 4 pages
