Business Document Assignment

Instructions: To gain practice conducting both qualitative and quantitative research and completing a professional document, complete the following tasks. The project may be completed individually in pairs.

1. Complete quantitative and/or qualitative research

a. Complete some in depth market research about a company of your choosing - perhaps a company you want to work for (which may help you prepare for our interview assignment)suggest Shipping Company or TELUS (movil-phone company in Canada)

b. Market research might include trends

i. Employment trends (hiring/firing cycles, turn over rates, is the company or industry expected to expand or downsize, where is this growth or collapse expected to happen, why?)

ii. Product trends (are they releasing a new product, why? Who is their competition?)

iii. Materials trends (are the materials of their products becoming more or less environmentally friendly and why, when did this trend begin and where is it expected to go?)

iv. Stock value (is their net worth increasing or declining, why?)

v. What is the public's perception of the company (why? How might the company be influencing this image?)

vi. Branding (how has their brand changed, since when, and why?)

2. What is the corporate culture of that company? Why might this be? (Who is the audience and why?) Profile the culture of the company with 3 sub headers.

3. 1 main header should be the social/community impact of the company

a. businesses are not independent: they affect the communities and the people around them. What impact do they have on society, on the environment, on politics, etc.?

b. Your analysis may include an explanation of some pros/cons

c. This section of your report should begin with a thesis, and should end with a conclusion

d. Have at least 3 sub headers for this section

4. Length:

a. If you are completing this report independently, your work should be 10-11 pages and include 5 images

b. If your report is being submitted as a pair, it needs to be 13-14 pages in length and include 8 images

5. Presentation:

a. Your report is due in hard copy at the beginning of class and should be in a folder/binder

b. Table of contents (including an abstract/introduction: half a page explaining the purpose of this report and keywords)

c. Headers and sub headers I need

d. Page numbers I need

e. Appendix (images) I need.
